20 hours on the train, first passing towering green mountains and then waking this morning to find the landscape completely changed; the rising sun highlighted the trees' feathery silhouettes on a flat horizon. The higher the sun rose, the more the land appeared dry and wispy. Anticipation of change had passed into reality and I could soon feel the warm California sun beating down through the window. The time has come!
I have arrived at the community house, in the mission district of San Francisco. The simple house and structured days of gathering for the daily office will hopefully facilitate a refreshing and insightful time of retreat and prayer.
Renewal, refreshment and understanding have shaped my intentions for this retreat with the Community of St. Francis. I hope for this time, that I will be reminded of or rediscover my truest intentions and desires and seek God in them. I also hope this time will serve as a prayerful point of reflection and transition from the Tacoma Catholic Worker, to General Convention, and to seminary.
After noon prayer and a bowl of black bean soup, I am now ready to give thanks for a safe journey here and take a nap.
